Volkswagen is making a significant step forward in the realm of in-vehicle technology by integrating ChatGPT, a large language model chatbot, into its vehicles. Starting in the second quarter of 2024, this innovative feature will be available in many production models, including the ID.7, ID.4, ID.5, ID.3, the all-new Tiguan and the all-new Passat, as well as in the new Golf.
ChatGPT seamlessly integrates into the IDA voice assistant, the intuitive voice control system that Volkswagen has developed for its vehicles. This integration allows drivers to use natural language commands to control various aspects of their vehicle, such as the infotainment system, navigation, and air conditioning. Additionally, ChatGPT enables drivers to ask general knowledge questions, receive vehicle-specific information, and engage in enriching conversations.
The integration of ChatGPT is powered by Cerence Chat Pro, a powerful conversational AI platform that leverages a multitude of sources, including ChatGPT, to provide IDA with the ability to respond accurately and relevantly to nearly every query imaginable. This comprehensive knowledge base ensures that drivers can access the information they need, whether it's about the vehicle's features, traffic conditions, or general knowledge.
Volkswagen takes data privacy very seriously, and ChatGPT is designed to protect driver information, so it does not gain access to any vehicle data, and questions and answers are deleted immediately after processing to ensure the highest possible level of data protection.
With its ability to handle a wide range of tasks, ChatGPT is set to become an indispensable tool for drivers, making their journeys more convenient, informative, and enjoyable.
