YouTube to Test New AI Features: AI-Powered Comments Summarizer and Conversational Tool

YouTube's new AI features could revolutionize the way we watch and interact with videos. With a comments summarizer and conversational tool, we'll be able to find the most relevant comments, get answers to our questions, and discover new content.

YouTube is testing two new experiments that integrate generative AI into the viewing experience as they announced today.

These experiments are currently only available to a small number of Premium members, but if you are eligible, you can try them out at youtube.com/new.

Comment topics summarized by AI

When you open the comment section on a mobile device, you will see a new option to sort by ✨Topics. This will organize the comments into "easily digestible themes," making it easier for you to understand and participate in comment conversations.

Creators can also use these comment summaries to more quickly jump into comment discussions on their videos, or to draw inspiration for new content based on what their audiences are discussing. They can also delete individual comments that show up under a specific topic if they want to remove it.

Note that this experiment is only running on a small number of videos in English that have large comment sections. Additionally, topics are pulled from published comments only and cannot be created from comments that are held for review, contain blocked words, or are from blocked users.

A conversational AI tool

The second AI feature is a conversational AI tool that allows users to get answers to questions about the video they are watching, recommendations for related content, and more, without interrupting playback. For certain academic videos, the tool can also provide quizzes and responses to help users learn more deeply.

To access the tool, users can tap ✨Ask beneath select videos and begin by asking questions about the video or choosing a suggested prompt. The tool is currently only available to a small number of people on a subset of videos, but YouTube Premium members in the U.S. on Android devices will be able to opt-in to the experiment at youtube.com/new in the coming weeks.

Please note that this is just an experiment, and it’s still under the development. If you have the chance to try it out, please let YouTube know what you think by sending feedback.
